The ‘Vietnam - Netherlands Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project’ (VNICZM) (2000-) is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and co-ordinated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) of Viet Nam through Viet Nam Environment Protection Agency (VEPA). The first phase of the VNICZM Project (2000-2003) aimed at establishing a long-term Vietnamese Integrated Coastal Zone Management Programme by focusing on advising in the planning and development of the Vietnamese coastal zone, its communities and its resources in a sustainable way. Currently, the VNICZM Project finds itself in a Bridging Phase used to strengthen institutional ICZM frameworks at provincial level, introduce ICZM at coastal district level, and set up the first national ICZM strategy document for approval by the national steering committee. The Second Phase is projected to start in 2007.
